Go Speed Racer, Go!

Those of you who have been following this blog for any length of time already know that my encounters with exotic sports cars at work is, well, nothing new.  This past Wednesday however, brought something rather unusual…a photo shoot for the Speed Racer Mach 5.

Built by Mark Towle (of Gotham Garage fame) in 2009, the Mach 5 is based on a 1966 Corvette chasis..and from there on up is a custom build.  You may have seen a kit car or two floating around, but this is the only officially licensed one in existence.  It has been feature on the Speed Channel, been in the 2009 Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade, done a couple of pre-race laps before the 2009 51st running of the Daytona 500 (where I saw it the first time), and was at Megacon 2010.

…and yes, those little saw blades actually work.
